Michael Ray Jensen, 71, of Layton, Utah, passed away peacefully November 2, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 6, 1951, in Brigham City, Utah, the eldest of 6 children born to Donald Ray Jensen and Verla Tracy Jensen.
Mike graduated from Roy High in 1969 where he excelled at sports. He was a Black Knight playing tailback for the football team where he was affectionately known as the “Minnow” by his teammates. He also served as Student Body Vice President and in 2019 he helped to plan and organize their 50th reunion.
After high school, Mike married Denece Hill (Egbert) and raised their two children Tori and Lance in Layton, Utah. They later divorced but remained friends.
In 1983, he graduated from Weber State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in data processing. He went on to apply his love for airplanes into a career programing flight simulators for military aircraft at Evans and Sutherland in Salt Lake City.
Mike met his love Susan Dailey in 2008 and they spent the last 14 years taking care of each other and spending time with their many friends.
Mike was an avid reader. Amassing a library of hundreds of books, mostly science fiction and non-fiction books dedicated to technology, computers, and programing. He had a brilliant mind when it came to coding and would spend many hours writing programs just for fun. Mike was always curious and analytical, constantly asking questions about how things work and searching for answers to complex problems.
He enjoyed spending time with his high school friends reminiscing about old times, going to the boat races with his siblings, getting together with the whole family when possible, listening to 80’s music and a big bowl of ice cream.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Verla Jensen and his brother Chris Jensen. He is survived by his love Susan Dailey, daughter Tori Jensen, son Lance Jensen (Brandy Kawaguchi), grandson Logan Jensen, granddaughter Isla Jensen, great granddaughters Layla, Elyzabeth, and Karlyn. Also, his sisters Judy Ganz (Doug), Jody Brown (Mitch), brothers Byron Jensen, Myron Jensen (Shellene), his nieces Brandelee, McKenna, Ashton, Jessica, and Hollie and nephews Tyler, Quinn and Riley.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Davis Hospital and Medical Center ICU for doing all they could to keep of our Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and friend comfortable during his final days. The tenderness and compassion they provided was amazing to witness.
In accordance with Mike’s wishes, traditional funeral services will not be held. A Celebration of Life in his honor will take place at a later date.
