Michael Stephen Nelson of Ogden, Utah, passed away on February 17, 2024. He was born on June 7, 1947, in San Bernadino, California, to Walter and Rose Lee Lutz Nelson. He was raised in Garden City, Utah, on the family farm near the shores of Bear Lake with his two brothers, Robert “Butch” and Charles “Chuck”. He attended schools in Rich County, graduating from Rich High School in 1965. He attended Weber State College for two years.
He worked at Hill Air Force Base from 1967 to 2004. At Hill Field he worked as a mechanic for the first ten years on various military aircraft. He then moved into management for the remainder of his career.
Mike married Delores Weston on December 27, 1966. Together they had two children: Todd and Stephanie. They were later divorced.
Mike married Judy Baird on June 7, 1989, and they enjoyed 35 years together.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and hunting with family and friends at Bear Lake and in the Uintah Mountains. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding, golfing, and building and flying remote controlled airplanes.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Judy of Riverdale; his son, Todd (Nancy) Nelson of Layton; his stepchildren, Tracy Haderlie of Riverdale, and Shireen (Matt) Van Orden of Shelly, Idaho; his son-in-law, Bryan Boyack (Cristi); and his daughter-in-law, Cami Johnson. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren; and his brother, Robert “Butch” (Dixie) of Laketown, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Christiansen (Chris Julian) of Ogden, Utah; his stepdaughter, Cristi Boyack of Whitney, Idaho; and his grandson, Joseph Nelson of Layton, Utah He was also preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Rose Lee Nelson of Garden City, Utah; his infant brother, David; and his brother, Charles “Chuck” of Ogden, Utah.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Garden City Cemetery, 449 W Logan Road.
