Michael Hollis Parker

December 28, 1958 ~ January 16, 2015

Our beloved husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather was called back to his Heavenly Father on Friday, January 16, 2015.

Michael was born on December 28, 1958 in Clearfield, Utah to LaRae and Hollis Haws.  They later divorced and LaRae remarried William “Bill” Raymond Parker who adopted Michael at age 8.  Michael spent most of his childhood in the Kanesville and Hooper areas where he learned the value of hard work and service from his parents and grandparents, Rulon and Harriett Cardon.

He graduated from Roy High in 1977. He married the love of his life, Shelly Ann Barker on April 6, 1979 in the Ogden LDS Temple. They made their home in West Warren where they raised their daughter and two sons.

Michael was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in several callings, including that of a faithful home teacher. He also was currently serving with his wife as a ward missionary. Michael had a strong testimony of the gospel and shared that testimony through service to others.

Michael loved reading and learning, hunting, fishing, camping, horseback riding, and hauling hay with his dad, brothers, and children. He also loved to garden and would help his wife with canning. Michael always wanted to be a rancher and spent countless hours tending to the family and neighbor’s cattle.  Michael’s highest priority was to spend time with his family.  He loved helping his brother Joel and his mother and being called Papa Mike.

Michael worked at Fowers Dairy in Hooper, NDS at Freeport Center, and spent the last 35 years working at Compass Minerals.

Michael is survived by his wife, Shelly; children, Melanie (Ben) Thompson, James (Kendal) Parker, and David (Alicia) Parker; eight grandchildren; his mother, LaRae Parker; Hollis (Rosemary) Haws; brothers and sisters, Billie Jean, Susanne, Rex, Joel, Terry, and Reba.  He was preceded in death by his brother, David; grandparents, father, and father-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the West Warren Ward, 856 North 5900 West.  Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, West Haven Cemetery.
