Our beloved husband and father, Michael James Thesen, returned to our loving Heavenly Father on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2023. He fought bravely with cancer.
Michael was born on July 1, 1962 in Cook County, Illinois. His family moved to Colorado Springs when he was 13 years old and later in life, he settled in Clinton, Utah.
The love of his life (other than his wife) was truck driving. He drove truck for many years and loved everything about it. He loved the freedom of the open road and was known for his ability to get the load there on time. Over the years, he survived many weather related storms and even a tornado while in his truck. He was so talented that he could back the trailers in with just a hand span between them. He was very skilled not only in driving but also mechanically. Always knowing how to creatively solve problems in a difficult situation. He gained his love of trucking after watching the movie Smoky and the Bandit. Which we often laughed about. He also enjoyed restoring fast cars. His first was a 1972 GTO but is favorite was the time he spent with his son, Ashlar, working on and driving our “precious” Camaro.
More than trucking he loved his family. Mike was a hands on husband and dad. His family was always involved in what was going on. He was selfless, kind and giving. We always knew that we were loved and cared for. Mike had many challenges in his life but he had a great compassion for others. He loved to share his experiences, hope and encouragement with others. Some will be familiar with his favorite quote, “One is too many and a thousand is never enough”.
Mike had a great sense of humor and we laugh our way through life together. If he were to share one last thing he would say, “You can’t roller skate in a buffalo herd. But you can be happy if you put your mind to it”.
Mike is survived by Jocelyn Thesen (Wife), Ashlar Thesen (Son), Shaden Thesen (Daughter), Priscilla Kersh (Granddaughter), Sierra Johnson (Daughter), Zeke Johnson (Son in law). Chris Thesen (Sister) and “Uncle Smitty” (Brother in law).
He was preceded in death by Helen Thesen (Mother), Donald Thesen (Father) and Lynn Smith (Sister).
