Michelle Lee Wertz

Michelle Lee Wertz passed away at the age of 56 surrounded lovingly by family on February 27, 2024, after a six year battle with endometrial cancer.

Michelle was born on August 10, 1967, as the 3rd child of Ronald Gene Canter and Mary Alice Canter. She was preceded in death by her loving parents. 

Being from a military family, Michelle grew up in many different parts of the world; from New Mexico, Japan, Germany, Michigan, Kansas, and Ogden Utah. Many knew her by the name ‘Chel’ and would easily identify her by her iconic purple hair. 

Michelle worked as an advocate for the homeless for over 15 years at the Lantern House and the Ogden Housing Authority. Michelle was truly a genuine friend to all. She was a radiant personality and blessed the lives of individuals wherever she went. Michelle was an exemplary mother and human being. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, empathy, and strength of spirit.

Aside from her selfless caring and dedication to her family, friends, and community, Michelle was also the life of the party. She loved to go paddleboarding and spend time outside, go dancing, and make all her many friends around her laugh with her captivating storytelling. Wherever she went, she was bound to run into someone who knew and loved her. 

Michelle is survived by her four children and their spouses, Alyssa (Micah) Kwallek, Parker (Sophey) Wertz, Travis Wertz, and Jessica Wertz; as well as her grandson, Kol Kwallek. She is also survived by her two siblings and their spouses, Ron (Jeni) Canter, and Cindy (Michael) Garrison.

Honoring her request, cremation is planned. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the LDS Church, 5191 Old Post Rd, Ogden UT, 84404.
