She was born September 1, 1921 in Tremonton, Utah, to Emma Price and Mirl Sanders. At age three she contracted polio, which left her with a challenging disability that never seemed to slow her down. She never complained about her physical challenges. As a child she was very popular with the other school children and made many friends. She attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High School with the class of 1940. Mickey performed as a singer for servicemen at the VA Hospital during the 1940’s. She had a beautiful singing voice.
In 1947, she married Ruel A. Mortensen in Elko, Nevada. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple with their three children.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings, including Relief Society, the Mutual Improvement Association, (MIA) and the children’s Primary organization. With her husband, she served a church mission in the Ogden, Utah North Mission.
Mickey worked in the Medical Dispensary at Defense Depot Ogden for 30 years until her retirement. During this time she was a hardworking wife and mother, while still enjoying many valued friendships.
To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren she was known at “Grandma Pink” because they frequently saw her in a McKay-Dee “Pink Lady” coat, where she volunteered for 10 years. Mickey enjoyed creating many crafts including ceramic figures, quilts, porcelain dolls and embroidered pieces. She loved her Island Park cabin where she lived the past 18 summers.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice for Utah: Maggie, Belinda, Joy, Heather, Holly, Kevin, and Dr. Holland – thank you! You are truly angels on earth. Also thanks to other family members that provided Mickey with such excellent and loving care these past few months.
