Mickey passed away at his home in Syracuse. Mickey was born to Colin K. Thurgood and Sandra M. Lawlor when his father was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Mickey moved from California, when he was five, to live with his father and step-mother, Terri in Syracuse, Utah.
Mickey had a special bond with his grandfather, Duane Thurgood and loved to help him in his greenhouses and with the farm. He spent many hours hunting and trapping critters west of the Bluff road in Syracuse with his cousins and friends.
He later moved to Evanston, Wyoming and then to Murray, Utah where he graduated from Murray High school. Upon graduating, Mickey joined the Navy and served on the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier. After returning home from the Navy, Mickey worked in the transportation industry. He was a very hard worker and took pride in his work on the job, in his yard, and his home.
Mickey enjoyed parachuting, skiing and swimming. He loved collecting things such as cars, Harleys and had a large collection of taxidermy.
Mickey married Joanne Kretschnann, whom he has two sons with, Davidson and Dylan. They were later divorced. Mickey later married Cindie Burr. They divorced but remained close friends.
He is survived by his sons, Davidson Duane Thurgood of West Valley City, Utah and Dylan Gary Thurgood of West Valley City, Utah; brother, Colin Jeffrey (Amber) Thurgood of Clinton, Utah and sister, Linzy Dawn Thurgood of Syracuse, Utah; and his mother, Terri Arnold Thurgood of Syracuse, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his father, Colin and his mother, Sandra.
Mickey had a bigger than life personality and beautiful blue eyes with long eyelashes. He was hard working, honest and generous. Mickey enjoyed teasing and tormenting his nieces and nephews, carrying on the tradition of his uncle Cory.
We love you and will miss you Mickey Mouse.
