Mike Cortisse
Mike Cortisse passed away in the evening on November 8, 2021. He joins his father, Georges Cortisse; his mother, Marcelle Cortisse; and his son, Kristopher Cortisse.
He leaves behind his wife, Lorraine Cortisse; his children, Jon Langston (Karrie), Robyn Langston, Michelle Cortisse (Brian Helps), Marci Cortisse, Erik Vaughn (Elaine Whited), Tony Wier, Ryan Suda (Corey), and Tyler Cortisse (Jade Harmon); his siblings, Pat Cortisse (Georgie), Christiane Miller (Cortisse), George Cortisse (Doreen), and Linda Fast (Robert); along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Born Michel Pierre Cortisse, at age three Mike emigrated from Belgium to the US, moving to Ogden, Utah and remaining there for the majority of his life. He made many friends, stole many hearts, and created many memories before graduating from Bonneville High School. He carried on working in sourcing and logistics for multiple transportation companies. He loved riding motorcycles, camping, fast cars, and rocking out to loud music.
Mike embodied the spirit of kindness throughout his life. Quick with a smile, a joke, a hug, and a laugh. He had an uncanny ability to bring out the best parts of the people he met, be it a stranger at the grocery store or catching up with a high school buddy over a drink. Always a good listener even through different opinions, he would make time for those he loved and steal a laugh even through tears. He made friendships blossom by virtue of his humor, smile, conversation, compassion, and his wholly genuine presence. This led to lifelong friendships with people he loved and respected which held from the schoolyard to his last day.
He offered care for those who needed it without prompt. He provided a home for his family, friends, and acquaintances throughout the years whether on a permanent, temporary, or overnight basis. You’d find a pot of coffee, a pile of delicious crepes, and a plate full of scrambled eggs at his table with a smiling Mike to share it all with you. He was a father to children who weren’t his own, though he treated them as if they were.
Family and friends alike will remember Mike as the wonderful, fun, loving man he was. Even as we mourn, we are thankful that our lives were enriched by having him in it.
A casual memorial for Mike will take place on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1190 East 5425 South, South Ogden. Friends are welcome to visit with the family.
