Mike A. Lujan

Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Mike A. Lujan, 86, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the home of his eldest daughter and son-in-law, Susie L. and Ralph Gutierrez.

He was born September 29, 1924 in Frances, Colorado to Rose Martinez and Vicente Lujan.

Mike married Ophelia Archuleta in Price, Utah in 1947. They later divorced after 25 years of marriage and later re-married.

He was a veteran of World War II where he received numerous medals including the Bronze and Silver Star.

His occupation was coal miner, sheep herder, maintenance technician and construction worker.

Mike enjoyed camping, hunting, watching Western movies, playing the lottery, cooking, and loved attending family reunions. He also enjoyed gardening and horse back riding. He will be remembered for his famous chili verde.

He is survived by his children, Michael V. Lujan, Jacob P. Lujan, Kathy (Craig) Gappmayer, Richard (Mary Ann Martinez) Lujan, Anthony (Diane) Lujan, Helen (Stephen) Ahern, James (Augusta) Lujan, Susie (Ralph) Gutierrez. Also surviving are his siblings, Barbara Guevara, Carmen Perea, James (Emma) Lujan, Viola (Al) Pondo, Angela (Ron) Sirek, 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous step-grand and great-grandchildren

Mike was preceded in death by his wives, Ophelia Archuleta, Romona Martinez of 25 years (whose children referred to our father as Mikey and Grandpa Mikey), his parents, three sisters, Cecelia Padilla Bigley, Thomasita Mascaranas, and Charlotte Perea.

A special thanks, appreciation and heart felt gratitude to Hearts for Hospice, especially Cage who cared for and treated our father and our family with love, respect and dignity and was with him and us until the end.

A memorial mass will be held Wednesday, February 23rd at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph''s Catholic Church, 514 24th Street, Ogden.

Funeral arrangements and cremation entrusted to Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary.
