Mikel Curtis Hicks Sr. peacefully passed away on July 24, 2018, surrounded by his family. Although, many expected him to suddenly wake and ask “What did I miss?”, it just didn’t happen this time. He seemed to have nine lives. It was no secret that the man was tough as nails and stubborn as a mule. After a life of hard work and many physical challenges, it only seemed fitting that he passed in his sleep.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years Deean, his sons Mikel, Matt, Miles and Masen as well as 13 beautiful grandchildren .He is also survived by his father, Jim, his sister, Barri and his brother, James. He was born September 7, 1955 in Ogden, Utah. He served in the Florida Tallahassee mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He met his wife while doing what he loved, working on cars. They were married for time and all eternity on November 3, 1977 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together, they raised four boys and spent many years cheering them on at their sporting events. They were an active part in helping each of the boys obtain their Eagle Scout award. He held various positions throughout his life while serving as a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and he was often heard to say “If we would have known how much fun they were, we would have had them first.” He was also an educated man that could do almost anything. If he didn’t know how to do something, he’d simply buy a book about it and teach himself. He loved rebuilding cars, collecting tools, and dreaming of a cabin in the mountains. He was a hard worker and was willing to help anyone in need. Despite declining health, he continued to try and do all the things he loved. At the age of 62, the Lord decided that he had more important work to do from the other side. He will be greatly missed by many.
