Mildred Maxine Carter Fawcett

August 9, 1933 — November 7, 2024

Layton

Mildred Maxine Carter Fawcett, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, passed on to be reunited her Heavenly Father and her husband and family members on November 7, 2024.Our sweet mother overcame so much in her final days and she tried so hard to stay with us but we take comfort in knowing that she is truly at peace.

Mom was born in a small log house in Porterville, Utah on August 9, 1933 to Conard and Manilla Carter. She was the youngest of 5 children. Mom always said that she grew up in a kind and loving family. As a child she rode horses and played and explored on the farm. There was no running water, indoor plumbing, electricity, or telephone during those early years, but she did create a playhouse in the bushes that was her pride and joy. As a young girl, Mildred learned to work hard and her parents taught her to pray in family prayer and individual prayer. Mom felt close to Heavenly Father and talked to Him in prayer just like a friend.

Mom moved to Morgan when she was 10 years old and she attended school there. She became sick with Rheumatic fever twice during her elementary school years and had to miss 6 months of school during the 2nd and 5th grade but she was able to keep up with her classmates.

Mom loved music and she had a beautiful voice. She sang with her family and with a close friend (Colleen) and they would often perform programs. She also sang with the Relief Society Singing Mothers. She was also involved in 4-H during summer months and would take cooking, sewing, and home improvement classes. Mom also enjoyed writing poetry and she was involved with the school newspaper in high school. She was a very creative person.

Mildred met her future sweetheart, Marr Fawcett, on a blind date. She wasn’t too impressed at first but she wrote to him on his mission and decided he was the kind of man she had wanted to marry. They were married on September 3, 1953 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They moved to different states while Marr finished his Veterinary degree and completed his service in the Air Force. During this time mom welcomed 3beautiful children, Raquel, Diane, and Mark.

Mildred and Marr moved to Layton in 1960 and mom supported dad as he opened his Veterinary business. They took family vacations in the summer and usually packed everyone in the camper. There are many fond memories of trips to Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Yellowstone , Disneyland, and camping at the Stake Center in the Uintah’s while helping build the lodge there. In 1969 Mildred and Marr built their new home on Rosewood Lane and mom lived there independently after Marr’s death up until the last few weeks.

Mildred taught her children to live the gospel and she led by example. She supported them in everything they did and never missed an opportunity to be there for them. Mom was there for swimming lessons, piano lessons, dance lessons, parent-teacher conferences, school performances and anything her children were involved in. When she had grandchildren, she made every effort to show up for the activities they were involved in. She sewed clothes and costumes for her children , canned fruits and vegetables, cooked great Sunday dinners and was known for her Thanksgiving sweet potatoes and Ranch salad dressing.

Family was a very important part of Mildred’s life. Her pride and joy are her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was the kind of grandma who made birthdays and holidays special and she remembered all of the birthdays even as she grew older. We will miss the opportunity to text her to let her know when we arrive home safe after trips.

A big part of Mildred’s life and character in her relationship with her Heavenly Father and her faith in the doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She participated in callings in Relief Society, Primary, ministering, and Cub Scouts. She followed the teachings of the gospel. We know that Mildred spent a lot of times on her knees praying for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mildred is survived by her children, Raquel (Jerry) Bullough, Diane (Rod-deceased) Reaveley, and Mark (Keri) Fawcett; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marr, her parents and her siblings.
