Mildred McMurdie Wright

OGDEN - Mildred Fern McMurdie Wright, 84, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, June 9, 2007.

She was born on November 22, 1922 in Ogden, Utah to Samuel Mitton and Agnes Harten McMurdie, the fourth of seven children. As a child of the great depression, Mid learned the value of hard work. She also knew how to have fun and often her infectious laughter brought all around her to tears. She was born into a wonderful family and they have always supported and enjoyed each other throughout their entire lives. She attended Ogden schools and graduated from Ogden High in 1941.

As a young woman, Mildred enjoyed playing sports. While pitching for her softball team a certain umpire, Jack Wheeler Wright, took a liking to Mildred and they married on August 22, 1941. In December of that year, they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married happily for nearly 66 years. Jack was a career army officer and his tours of duty called for them to travel and live all over the United States, Central & South America and Europe. Her favorite assignment was the four years they spent in Oslo, Norway as part of the American Embassy Staff. Mid was a wonderful example of a career army wife, supporting Jack as he fought in World War II and in Korea and as he served our country all over the U.S. and the world.

Mildred was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life. She served valiantly in many callings, had a great love and knowledge of the scriptures and a firm testimony of the Savior. She loved to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Mildred took great joy in her family. A lady of many talents she loved to sing, cook, sew, read and work in her garden. Her family and friends will greatly miss her homemade food and jams. She has given us the gift of her many journals, as well as the genealogical research she did. She had a great love and respect for her ancestors. She supported her two daughters, Catherine and Lisa, in all their many actives throughout their lives. Mid so enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and cheering them on at all their events.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jack; two daughters Catherine (Thomas) Wilkinson of Omaha, NE; and Lisa Largent of Morgan, UT; 8 grandchildren, Jessica, Abby, Ashley, Tyler, MacKenzie, Jennie, Matthew and Garrett and one great- granddaughter, Cassidy.

Also surviving are brothers Keith (Beverly) McMurdie; Dennis (Betty) McMurdie; sister Doris (LaMar) Shreeve; and brother-in-law Earl Wright; and the many nieces, nephews and cousins that Mildred loved and adored.

She was preceded in death by her parents, their infant son, Robert, son-in-law Steven T. Largent, her older brothers Clifford and Royal McMurdie and sister Bernice Gibbons.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 20th at 11:00 am at the Ogden Kingston Ward, 1425 Kingston Drive. Friends may call Tuesday, June 19th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and 9:30am to 10:30 a.m. at the Kingston Ward prior to services on Wednesday. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mildred''s name to Weber State University''s Family Literacy Program, 4018 University Circle, Ogden, Utah, 84408-4018.

Jack, and their daughters, Cathy and Lisa, give our deepest thanks to her loving extended family, friends, doctors, nurses, Alpine Hospice, and her many other caregivers who treated her so kindly and with such respect.

Mildred spent her life in giving service to family, friends and neighbors. She lived her life with grace and dignity and was so strong in the face of adversity. She has left us a great heritage and example to follow. We will miss her lovely spirit. We love you, Mom.
