Milton R. Goff
SOUTH OGDEN – Milton Ransom Goff, 92, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2009.
He was born September 19, 1916 in Thatcher, Idaho to Charles Ivan and Myrtle Ransom Goff.
He married Velma Orchard, of Lewiston, Utah, on August 8, 1938 in Pocatello, Idaho. Their vows were solemnized September 29, 1942, in the Logan LDS Temple.
Milton worked for Amalgamated Sugar Company, the Idaho Power Co., and then became owner of O & M Plumbing and Heating for 40 years and served as president of the Utah Mechanical Contractors Association.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission to the Northern States from 1935 – 37. He and his wife served together in the New York Rochester Mission in 1986-87. He served faithfully in countless positions in the church. He was Bishop of the Ogden 40th Ward for seven years and later a member of High Council of the Ogden Ben Lomond Stake. He was very active in genealogy and contributed recommendations for the church’s pilot genealogy programs. He and his wife also served as ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple for 10 years.
He leaves us with many wonderful memories of times spent with him at the family cabin, camping, family trips, fishing and lots of hugs. He delighted in his family, grandchildren and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Velma Goff; children, Karen (Robert) Dunkley, M. Thayne (Marilyn) Goff, Ruth Jensen, Debra (Rex) Bingham, Stephen Goff, 27 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, one brother, five sisters, one daughter (Marilyn Wheelwright) and two grandsons (Michael Dunkley and Jeffrey Halverson).
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 1, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View Stake Center, 2900 North 1000 West.
Friends may call at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday at the Pleasant View Stake Center from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
The family wishes to thank all those honoring Milton today. We also would like to give special appreciation and thanks to all the kindness and care given to Milton from the staff at Legacy House of Ogden, Alpine Hospice and Alpine HHC. Also a special thanks to Debra Bingham, Milton’s daughter, for the loving service and attention she provided to Dad.
