Mona Allred Nickell

Mona Allred Nickell, age 82, passed away May 20, 2021 at her home. Mona was born March 12, 1939 in Roosevelt, Utah to James Wesley and Fern Marie (Mitchell) Allred. She was the eighth of eight children.

Mona married William Scott Nickell on May 10, 1958. Together they raised four children, living in Salt Lake City, moved to Bountiful in 1966, until moving back to Roosevelt in 1977. After returning to Roosevelt, Mona went to work at East Elementary where she worked in the school lunch program for nearly 30 years.

Mona had a deep love for people. Her life exemplified service as she quietly went about doing good. Often, she would call to check up on friends and relatives who had “been on her mind”. She was a great cook, especially her homemade cinnamon rolls, cookies, and candy. It wasn’t Christmas until you received your tin of Christmas candy. The catch to this…. you had to return the tin to receive more candy the next year!

Family reunions and camp outs were traditions she looked forward to. Hunting season meant wall to wall sleeping bags in their home, yummy food, and stories galore. Often there were unexpected hunters that showed up on the Nickell doorstep. They were always fed, warmed, and welcomed in.

She loved spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved being with her.  Baking goodies, crafts, watching movies and attending their sports games. Playing games of any kind was her favorite. She was willing to try anything, “just once”. She loved reading and was a beautiful seamstress. Many have been the recipient of the beautiful quilts she made.

Mona had a deep love for the Savior and was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Often, she could be found reading her scriptures in her favorite recliner. She served in various callings throughout the church.

Mona is survived by her children: Mike Nickell, Lou Ann (Kirk) Hansen, Will (Mindy) Nickell; sister Beth Brcko, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, William Scott Nickell, daughter Cindy Nickell, parents and six siblings.
