Mont A. Heiner

“Together Again” Mont A. Heiner FARMINGTON – Mont Austin Heiner, 93, died Sunday, August 26, 2007 at Davis Hospital and Medical Center of ailments related to advanced age. He was born May 25, 1914 in Morgan, Utah, a son of George Anthony and Laura Robison Heiner. On June 6, 1936, Mont married Margaret Alexander in Hailey, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After more than 70 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on November 19, 2006. As a youth, he lived on a ranch just south of Robertson, Wyoming and enjoyed telling of team-drawn sleds with hot rocks for warmth as the “school bus.” His family later moved to Ogden and he graduated from Ogden High School when it was located at 24th and Monroe and attended Weber Academy (now Weber State University) when it was located on 25th Street, just above Adams. He and Margaret lived briefly in Jerome, Idaho; Marion, Indiana; and Elko, Nevada. They lived in Ogden from 1940 to 2006, and most recently in Farmington. Mont was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Temple Ordinance worker, a Counselor in an Elder’s Quorum Presidency, a High Priest Group Leader and as a Home Teacher. He was always proud of his work on the railroad. He worked in the Ogden Yards as a clerk, switching cars to make up trains and in other positions. He often worked a second job as a salesman and was so capable that he could “sell anything.” Mont was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing and the tales which flow from that sport. He enjoyed hunting, mostly for the opportunity to be outdoors in the mountains he loved. He was an excellent “handy-man” and could fix or make a replacement for most anything that quit working. He read westerns and watched western movies because the horses, cattle and scenery reminded him so much of his youth in Wyoming. He loved camping and traveling and spending time with his family on trips and picnics. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always enjoyed a good joke. Surviving are one son and two daughters, Clyde M. (Gail) Heiner, Farmington; Susan H. (Richard) Kemp, Bountiful; and Nancy H. Gardiner, Baker City, OR; a brother “Bud” of San Clemente, CA; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
