Morris J. Saathoff
December 3, 1923 ~ April 25, 2019
Beloved husband, Morris J. Saathoff passed away at his home in the arms of his wife after a 15 year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Morris was born on December 3, 1923 in Magnolia, Minnesota to John J. and Mary J. Cragoe Saathoff. He was educated in Minnesota. He learned to work very hard on a farm at a very young age.
Morris was an excellent athlete growing up with much recognition and write ups in the newspaper. He excelled in basketball, baseball, football, pole vaulting, water skiing, and was a life guard during summer vacation from school. He loved sports his entire life. He never wanted to miss a Jazz game. He taught little league for 10 years. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the great outdoors.
Morris served his country faithfully in World War II in Europe in 1943. He was the recipient of many awards including the Combat Award, the Purple Heart, and the Oak Leaf Cluster. He never complained of the injuries he received.
In the 1960’s Morris transferred from Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, California, to Hill Air Force Base where he met and married his wife Carolee Hokanson Saathoff. He worked for the Government for 36 years and was very dedicated and conscientious, receiving numerous awards for his work. He was a Production Control Supervisor at the time of his retirement.
Morris willingly helped his wife babysit nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews as well as great-grandnieces and nephews.
He totally supported his wife in all of her LDS Church callings.
Morris is survived by his wife, Carolee Saathoff; his sisters, Pauline Beyer of Minnesota and Betty (Dennis) Holiman of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Wendy; his sister, Norma Stephens; and brother, John M. Saathoff. He is also survived by Richard and Beth Ann and many nieces and nephews.
At Morris’ request there was a brief family service where military honors were accorded. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
