Morton David Sparks
CLEARFIELD a" Morton David Sparks, 66, passed away Monday, April 27, 2009 at his home, after a valiant battle against cancer.
He was born August 4, 1942 in Kaysville the son of Lowell Leland and June Morton Sparks.
Morton graduated from Davis High School and received his Masters Degree in Public Administration from BYU.
Morton married Carolyn Lee Bennett on August 6, 1965 in the Logan LDS Temple.
He served in the Army National Guard. Morton was an Ogden City Police Officer, Layton City Police Officer and retired as Chief of Police for Clearfield City. After retiring he worked as the Emergency Manager for Clearfield City.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in Northern California, and served as a Bishops Counselor, Bishop, Counselor in the Stake Presidency and was currently the Stake Patriarch.
Morton enjoyed Ham radio, flying his Powered Parachute, 4-wheeling, camping, mountain manning, woodcarving, and spending time with his family at his cabin in Idaho.
Surviving are his wife, children, Jessica and Kevin Allred, Sherry and Jon Todd, Tammy and Brandon Thueson, sisters, Judith Warner, Melanie Williams, 11 grandchildren, Keith, Savannah and Alexa Allred; Chelsie and Kade Nimori; Blake, Jordan and Amberly Todd; Bailey, Kayla and Hannah Thueson.
Preceded in death by parents and brother Michael Sparks.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Clearfield South Stake Center, 2186 So. 125 W. Friends and family may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church.
Interment, Farmington City Cemetery.
