Muriel Elizabeth Meyer Elzey, 90, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021. She was born February 17, 1931, in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of George Frederick and Muriel Elizabeth Wade Meyer. She graduated with a diploma from Ogden High School, a bachelor’s degree from Weber State College, and a master’s degree in education from Utah State University.

She married John Myles Elzey February 3, 1951, in Ogden, Utah. They were married for 40 years until John passed away September 27, 1991, thirty years to the day earlier.

Muriel will be remembered by hundreds of students for her 22 years at Layton High School as an English teacher. Her love of reading and writing touched her family members and book club as well.

Being involved in the community was important to Muriel. She was a member of the Faculty Wives at WSC; Delta Kappa Gamma, Junior League; Child Culture Club; Girl Scouts of America; Ogden Symphony Board, Weber State Emeriti; and Arts International.

Muriel loved gardening, international travel, bridge, skiing, and horseback riding. Over the years, she enjoyed the dogs and cats who shared her home. She took great pleasure in spending time with her family and hosted scores of family holiday gatherings. She loved to serve her family and friends.

Muriel is survived by her daughters, Lynne (Brent) Beesley, Layton, and Sharon (Bill) Larkin, Fruit Heights; sons, J. Mark (Jennifer) Elzey, Ogden, and R. Brett (Kim) Elzey of Salt Lake City; brothers-in-law, Lee Witten, Ogden, and Ron (Vikki) Elzey, Roseville, CA; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Meyer, Seattle, WA; Carol Meyer, Salt Lake City, and Arlene (Larry) Byrd, Nampa, ID. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Cindy Beesley (Chris) Hoff (Gavin, Grayson), David Beesley, Marianne Beesley (Jeff) Arnold (Kaden, Wyatt, Austin, Madelyn), Nicole Larkin (Jonah, Jobe, Mazzy Snow), Paul Larkin (Denali, Keelie), John Larkin (Eligh, Avery), Kimberly Larkin, Danny Larkin, and Ricky Larkin (Dylan). She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Elzey; parents, George F. and Muriel Wade Meyer; brothers, Joseph H. Meyer and George W. Meyer; and sister, Dorothy (Vard) Orrock.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Following the service, interment will take place at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
