Murl Ray Bottomly passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the age of 94.
He was born on June 19, 1923, in Tonopah, Nevada, the only child of Murl Bottomly and Ruby Irene Dunsdon Bottomly. He married Beth Hamblin August 17, 1946. They were married for 53 years. She died March 3, 1999. While snowbirding in California, he met Judy Thomas. They were married in Yuma, Arizona December 21, 2002. She died November 13, 2013.
Ray enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 20, 1940. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy Armed Guard as a signal man. He was in the Naval Reserve and recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict, stationed at Pearl Harbor for a year. He retired from the Naval Reserve Construction Battalion Seabees in 1983 and Hill Air Force Base after 36 years. He was a Silver Legacy Life Member and a life member of the American Legion, Post 0134, Clearfield, Utah.
His interests include woodworking, camping, travel, stamp and coin collecting and playing pinochle at the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Ernie (Anne) Bottomly, Gail (Clyde) Yardley, Tami Bacon, Cindy “Pyn” Francisco, Judy’s children, Phillip (Kathy) Thomas, Sheila (Bill) Hughes, 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife Beth and his second wife, Judy and a great-grandson, Easton Kroeger.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Symbii Homecare and Hospice, especially Michelle, as well as Toby and Sarah, his physical therapists.
