Myrlan A. “Andy” Brown, 68, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2008 after a battle with cancer.
He was born February 11, 1940 in St. Johns, Arizona to Myrlan Greer Brown and Kathlyn Anderson.
Brown was married to Barbara Bodily in the Logan LDS Temple for more than 43 years. They are the parents of five children and 21 grandchildren.
He was raised in St. Johns, attending schools there and graduating high school. Brown attended Brigham Young University in 1958 for two years prior to serving an LDS mission in the Montevideo Uruguay Mission for two and a half years. He re-entered BYU in 1962, graduating in 1965 with a BA in Journalism. While working full-time, he continued doing graduate work for four years in the field of Communications. He worked for colleges and universities in educational public relations, and then published his own newspapers in Utah and Arizona.
Brown and his wife opened four insurance agencies in Eastern Arizona which they sold and retired in 2000. In 2003, they moved to Clinton, Utah.
Brown and his wife, Barbara, served a 23 month mission for the LDS Church in the Texas Lubbock Mission.
Her served in many callings in the LDS Church, including, Bishop in St. Johns, Arizona.
Brown served on the city council in Gilbert, AZ and later in St. Johns, AZ. In St. Johns, he served as Mayor for eight years. He also served as an officer in the Northern Arizona Council of Governments, and as a board member for the Northern Arizona Vocational Institute of Technology.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; five children, Troy A. Brown, St. George; Nancy (Brent) Call, Roy; Mark B. (Nicole) Brown, Layton; Eric G. (Teresa) Brown, Show Low, AZ; and Julie (Ragan) Bryce, Albuquerque, NM.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the Clinton 14th Ward Chapel, 382 West 1800 North, Sunset.
Friends and family may call Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., at the church.
Interment, West Side Cemetery, St. Johns, AZ on Saturday, March 1, 2008.
