Myrtle Mae McFarland

September 24, 1934 — January 8, 2024

Mae McFarland passed away peacefully on January 8, 2024.  She was born in Ogden, Utah to Arthur David Malan and Myrtle Mae Oram.  She married Leon J. McFarland on October 25, 1950 in Ogden, Utah.  They were sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple in 1964.  Together Leon and Mae had two sons; Gary and David.

Mom was a homemaker for most of her life but she couldn’t cook.  Our cream of wheat always had lumps in it.  I thought that was normal.  She took classes in accounting so she could maintain the books for their business.  McFarland Trenching and later Petland pet stores in Layton and Roy, Utah.  She was also the dispatcher for McFarland Trenching.  Mom loved kitties.  She never met a cat she didn’t like.  Even No Mo (short for no more cats) who kept attacking us whenever we took care of them.  She helped dad raise parakeets and pocket parrots until they were old enough to be sold.  She loved Petland.  We helped clean cages and everyone got bit by a mouse, but not mom.

Mom survived by her two sons; Gary (Karen) and David (Mary), four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Jolene Malan and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents and her brother.

Special thanks to Jamie, Hailey, Steve, Avery, Amy, and the staff at Cascade Springs Home Health and Hospice and Rocky Mountain Care Center for their tender loving care and support during mom’s last year.
