Nadine Durham

September 29, 1927 ~ February 3, 2021

Nadine Mary Joyce Germany Durham passed away peacefully at home on February 3rd, 2021.  She was born in Lyford, Texas on September 29th, 1927, to Andrew and Annie Mae Donovan Germany. She had three brothers and two sisters. Her Father was a farm manager who had served in the Army in France during World War I, and her Mother was a practical nurse and midwife. Her Father died in Mississippi of pneumonia when she was 9, and soon thereafter she, her Mother and brothers and sisters took a bus to Keevil, Arkansas to live with her Mother’s family on their family farm. When she was 15, she moved with her Mom and younger brother to Little Rock, Arkansas, so her mom could find work there as a nurse.  Nadine also went to work at that time, first in a drug store as a clerk and then as a counter clerk at the canteen on Camp Robinson Army Base.  It was there that she met her husband of 56 years, Private Roy Oliver Durham. They got married on 16 July 1945, and after his discharge from the Army they moved to Grand Island, Nebraska to live with his parents and work their family farm. She had 3 sons there---Roy Andrew, Martin and Jeffery.  They moved to Ogden Utah in February 1952, and after settling in she had three more children there---Rebecca, Josephine and Keith.  Nadine was a very devout Catholic who regularly went to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on 25th Street in Ogden.  It was there that she taught CCD, was a Minister of Communion, and became an Associate Nun in the Carmelite Order.  Later in life she worked as a Homemaker Home Health Aide for the elderly. She loved to sew, make quilts, paint, and go camping.  She babysat many of the neighborhood children---her house was always full of kids.
Nadine is survived by her children Roy Andrew Durham, Martin (Connie) Durham, Josephine (Keith) Lorando, Keith (Lori) Durham; 11 Grandchildren (Janetta, Michael, Jennie, Matthew, Tanya, James, Christopher Lorando, John Lorando, Kenneth Lorando, Theresa Lorando, and Rachel Lorando), 13 Great Grandchildren, and 5 Great Great Granchildren.  Preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Annie Mae (Donovan) Germany; brothers William Donovan Germany, Thomas (Minnie) Germany, and Andrew “Chico” (Shirley) Germany; sisters Edna Belle (Carlton) Cheatham and Josephine (Hardin “Mickey”) Elledge; husband Roy Oliver Durham; son Jeffery (Peggy) Durham and daughter Rebecca Durham; daughter-in-law Shana (Roylance) Durham; grandson Harold Oliver Durham; and Great Granddaughter Jayla Mae Pearl Lorando.
