Nadine Checketts Ricks, 80, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday, January 26, 2008.
She was born September 10, 1927, in Providence, Utah, the second child to Dora Wood and Floyd Reading Checketts. She grew up in Cache Valley and graduated from South Cache High School in 1945.
Nadine met the love of her life, George Duane Ricks, before WWII. They exchanged letters while he served in the U.S. Navy, and she worked at Bushnell Hospital in Brigham City. George and Nadine were married in the Logan LDS Temple on March 4, 1947, and have been inseparable since that day. They began their married life in Providence, Utah, later moving to Richland, Washington, then to Roy, Utah. While in Roy, Mom worked as the attendance secretary at Roy High School. She also served in various LDS Church positions. In 1969, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they lived for 35 years. Mom enjoyed her years in Las Vegas. She was a member of the Mesquite Club and was an avid bridge player. She and Dad made many wonderful friends and have had an active social life. Wherever she lived, she created a beautiful home and loved to have her family around her. One of the best gifts Mom and Dad gave the family was celebrating Thanksgiving at a condo in Park City. Her family will forever treasure the memories of those times.
Three years ago, Mom and Dad returned to Utah to be with their daughters. They lived for a time in Mountain Ridge Assisted Living before returning to their home in North Ogden. The family wishes to thank the folks at Mountain Ridge and Hospice of Utah for their kindness and care, as well as Dr. Matthew Weeks for his patience and compassion.
Nadine is survived by her husband and three daughters, Linda and Greg Schmidt, Paula Carr, and Connie and Will Jolley. She has eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Stan Checketts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three siblings, Duane Checketts, Mary Ann Parker and Douglas Checketts.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 30th, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.
Friends and family may call Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
