Nancy Warner Call

February 25, 1946 ~ April 21, 2014

OGDEN- Nancy Dee Warner Call passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014 due to complications from pancreatic cancer.

She was born to Marge Carver and Dee Warner of Ogden on February 25, 1946.  Roger, her dear brother, came a year later.  Nancy was more than a sister to Roger.  She helped raise him.  He, in turn, provided lifelong love and support to her. So many of their recollections feature scenes from their childhood: living in numerous Ogden neighborhoods, knowing so many people within the community, appreciating Ogden’s rich history of buildings, businesses, and homes.  A commemoration of Nancy’s life has to feature the special place of her father.  She loved her dad so dearly.  She learned to love people and listen to their stories from his example.

Nancy attended Ogden City schools and graduated from Ogden High School in 1964.  Friendships initiated in school or neighborhood settings would remain true and vibrant throughout her life.  On the day of her death, many of these friends were able to surround her and express their love for her.  Her love for them sustained her.

In November 1968, she married Ron Call.  Though their marriage ended after 21 years, their fondness remained.  Still shining scenes remain fresh in mind of holiday parties at the home of Ron’s parents, Phil and Dolores Call, where tables overflowed with food, and so much of the scene was the noise of music, stories, and laughter.  Nancy made settings more joyous.  She loved to laugh and tell a good joke.

Nancy and Ron had three daughters: Shelly, Christy, and Amy.  More than any other role in her full life, Nancy loved being a mom.  She instilled in her children a sense of her devotion.  Later, she relished being a grandma to Bailey, Hadlee, and Wyatt.  She attended many soccer games and hosted grandkid sleepovers.  Her heart was drawn to children her whole life.

Nancy worked for 15 years at Inkley’s.  Following her time there, she began a career in banking and financial products.  At Ogden First Federal, United Savings Bank, and Weber State Credit Union, she made lasting, meaningful relationships with co-workers and customers.  Her conversations after work were of people she met, came to know, and inevitably came to love.  She valued kindness, integrity, and a strong work ethic.

She loved life in so many of its forms from food to the outdoors, from conversations to shopping.  She wanted to live longer, but she wanted to live well and with dignity.  Cancer seemed to demand a choice between the two wishes.  We were lucky to have the chance to say goodbye to our mom, and yet we long to tell her again of our love.  Goodbyes are never complete.  Our memories suspend the loss we feel, so we recall bright scenes with her.  She will be missed every day that we live.

Surviving are her daughters: Christy and Amy (Justin); three grandchildren: Bailey, Hadlee, and Wyatt; her brother, Roger (Debbie) and their daughter, Sherrie (Todd); her aunt, Charlene Boam; some of her many friends: Rita, Sandy, Pam, Jackie, Karen, Suzie, Anna, and Lori; also, Jim Stoddard, who earlier in her life was her loving partner in music, fishing, and skiing.  Finally, her loyal dog, Boscoe, misses her.

Her parents and her daughter, Shelly, preceded her in death.

A brief, informal memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 beginning at 3 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  We invite you to bring a story to share about Nancy.  Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery, next to her father’s grave.
