LAYTON - Nancy Coombs Porter passed away Friday, August 22, 2008 in Layton from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Nancy was born November 2, 1935 in Payson, Utah to Ralph Coombs and Annie Lee Hedgepeth. She graduated from Payson High School in 1954 and from beauty school in Salt Lake City. She lived in New York for a year working as a nanny. She participated in the Hill Cumorah pageant.

She married Larry Porter on February 12, 1959 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and has lived in Layton for the last 50 years.

Nancy held many church positions: Primary President, Mutual President, Relief Society President and many other callings which she enjoyed serving in. She was always a dedicated servant. She had an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was currently serving with her husband as welfare service missionaries at the Layton LDS Employment Center and taught (with her husband) the Temple Preparation class in their ward.

Music was a very important part of her life. She taught private piano lessons for 45 years and was able to touch the lives of hundreds of young children. She loved teaching and refused to retire. Her legacy will be her great family and her many piano students.

Her greatest love was her family. She loved spending time with her husband, children and their spouses, grandchildren and spouses, and great-grandchildren.
