Naomi C. Cross
OGDEN - Naomi Cordelia Robertson Cross, 83, beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully and with dignity Saturday, February 12, 2011. Naomi’s passion for life and her love for her family sustained her through a courageous 5 ½ year battle with ovarian cancer; all the while scheduling chemotherapy to fit into her rigorous schedule of golf and bowling! She truly lived life to the fullest and had a special way of putting the care and love of her family first.
Naomi was born March 23, 1927 in Ash Hill, Missouri, to John and Viola Manley Robertson. Naomi was the eldest of five children and had wonderful memories of her childhood, playing, going for walks, and bike riding with her sisters and brothers in the surrounding woods. She attended schools in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and was grateful to have attended several class reunions reminiscing with her childhood friends.
It was during the war that fate put her future husband, Walter Gerald “Jerry” Cross in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and after a whirlwind romance, married April 7, 1945; theirs was a fairy-tale romance that lasted over 65 years.
Following the war, they settled in Ogden, Utah, where Naomi shared every aspect of Jerry’s life, ultimately becoming a true Utahan. They enjoyed joking that everyone from Ogden High’s Class of 1941 thought Naomi was an Ogden High Tiger alumnus!
Naomi was an exquisite seamstress. Her true legacy was creating cherished wedding dresses for her daughters and granddaughters. Each dress was an inspiration of hand sewn beads, crystals and pearls, sewn into lace petals and flowers; these treasured dresses will be passed down to generations of great granddaughters. Naomi had a passion for music and reading. She was an incredible self-taught pianist. She not only played piano for the Price School of Dance, but also designed and created beautiful costumes for all ages. She had a beautiful singing voice sharing her talent in church choirs and family get-togethers. Through the years, Naomi and Jerry shared a mutual love of ballroom dancing, big band concerts and golfing. After Jerry’s retirement, they traveled extensively to foreign countries as well as in the United States enjoying new friendships and making life-long memories. Naomi was in constant motion, never letting life pass her by.
Naomi will be remembered for her courage and optimistic determination when facing life’s tribulations. She never complained but continued forward with great faith. She was blessed with a strong will and zest for life.
Naomi is survived by her children and their spouses; Jerry and Kathie Cross, Layton; Diane and Dan (deceased) Lindgren, South Weber; Janis and Chris (CJ) Shelton, San Diego; Marilyn and Mike Dean, Perry. Grandchildren, Kelly and Sy Imlay; Amy and Pat Child; Sabrina and Tony Pantone; Ashley and Tyler Call; Dan Gerald and Randee Lindgren; Sara and Tad Driscoll; Nathan and Natalie Dean; 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
