Nathan M. Scoffield

Nathan Morgan “Nate” Scoffield, 87, passed away Tuesday, October 2017 surrounded by family.
He was born on December 7, 1929 the son of George Merrill and Mary Morgan Scoffield in West Layton, Utah. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years.
On October 2, 1957, Nate married Phyllis Cooper. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
He worked as a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring after 39 years. He was a commercial fisherman in Oregon and Washington and owned a construction company with his son, Reid. He was a master brick layer and was sought out to lay brick for many years. Nate will be remembered for his sense of humor and how, behind his gruff demeanor, he had a heart of gold.
Nate is survived by his wife, Phyllis, Clinton; their children, Reid (Shawna), Murray; Greg, St. George; Natalie (Briton) Howell, West Point; Heidi (Greg) Naylor, Clinton; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cal Scoffield, Tremonton; Bryce Scoffield, Mona; two sisters, Patricia Smith, Kaysville; and Marilynn Scott, Azalea, OR. He was preceded in death by one son, Tracy Nathan Scoffield, sister, Phyllis Allen, daughter-in-law, Nancy and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Services will conclude at the mortuary with Military Honors.
