Neil S. Gailey
SYRACUSE – Beloved father and devoted husband, Neil S. Gailey, 85, passed away Monday, January 12, 2009 at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful.
He was born May 11, 1923 in Syracuse, Utah the son of Edwin E. and Maggie Elizabeth Smedley Gailey.
Neil served in the United States Air Force in World War II.
Neil married Yvonne Green on February 4, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2007.
He was a member of the LDS church serving as Bishop Counselor, Bishop, High Council, Ogden LDS Temple Worker and Syracuse Stake Patriarch.
Neil worked at HAFB for 30 years and also worked for Dwight Gailey Plumbing. Neil’s family was his greatest joy. He was constantly rendering unselfish service to others.
He enjoyed playing baseball in his youth and played semi-pro.
Surviving are two sons, Dwight N. (Jan) Gailey, Morgan; Gregory (Jana) Gailey, Syracuse; four daughters, Neilene (Joseph) Gertge, So. Weber; Sharon (Douglas) Overdiek, Syracuse; Arlene (Edward) Gertge, Layton; Marilyn (David) Keller, Syracuse; 30 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, brother, Van (Shirley) Gailey, three sisters, Genene (Don) Rentmeister, Adele Cunning, Eula (Stan) Walker and sister-in-law, Joyce Gailey.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Verge, Wells, Garth, Boyd, grandson, Randy Gertge and great-granddaughter, Xanthe Dalton.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
