Neldon Ray Miller

May 1, 1928 ~ August 26, 2017

Neldon Ray Miller passed peacefully, surrounded by family on August 26, 2017, at the age of 89.

Loving companion, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend, Ned will be greatly missed and remembered for his giving nature and his valiant battle with pancreatic cancer, which he combated and fought like a warrior, to the end.

“Ned” Miller was born in Huntington, Utah on May 1, 1928, to Elmer Delbert Miller and Clarcie Jean Gardner-Miller. He attended Wellington Elementary until he began working to supplement the family income by herding cows and goats, delivering newspapers and taking on any available work that came his way. Ned joined the Navy in 1945, during WWII and was commissioned to the destroyer U.S.S. Helm. Following the war, he was transferred to the U.S.S. Passumpsic and promoted to YeoMan, in the Navy’s 7th Fleet. He was honorably discharged on March 10, 1949, with the rank of Chief Petty Officer/YN.

Ned owned a furniture store, a wrecking/ towing service and a drywall installation business before receiving his high school diploma in 1979 and finishing his career at Hill Airforce Base. But, the most treasured by far, was the love of his life, Elva L. Phillips, who he met in Ogden and who remained his dance and life partner. Ned and Elva shared over 60 years together, dancing, laughing and loving and Ned embraced her family as his own.

“Generosity” should have been Ned’s middle name, as throughout his life, taking in stray, injured and homeless animals; caring, feeding and nurturing them back to health, was how he gave back. If someone needed something and Ned had it to give, he gladly handed it over, without a second thought.

Ned was a member of the L.D.S. Church, Ogden Elks Club and a charter member of the Republican National Committee, the Tea Party Patriots Organization, the National Republican Congressional Committee and a contributor to the Wounded Warrior Project and a life-long contributor to animal rescue organizations. In his spare time over the last 30 years, Ned concentrated his efforts in scholarly research and writing philosophical articles and advice to share with friends and family, post mortem.

Ned was preceded in death by his brother Albert C. Miller and Bill Miller. He is survived by his brother Thomas J. Miller and wife, DaLane and family, sister, Corene McLeod and her family, his daughter, Patsy Truebo and many nieces and nephews who loved and admired him. Ned will be missed by his adopted family in California, Elva and her children, Glenda and Bob Smith, Dennis and Nancy Phillips, her grandchildren, Robyn, Carrie and Erin and her great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Charlie, Cameryn and Aubrey.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. where he will be buried next to his mother, which was his dying wish.

The Miller family would like to sincerely thank Robyn Price, his granddaughter, for being by his side constantly and caring for Ned during his courageous battle with cancer. She has cared for his every need.
