"TOGETHER ETERNALLY"
Neva W. Lindsey
SALT LAKE CITY - Our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister,
aunt, and friend, Neva Williams Lindsey, was joyfully reunited with her beloved
husband, Ralph, on Sunday, November 11, 2007, passing away at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Carol Lindsey. She was just eight days short of celebrating
her 90th birthday with her family.
Neva was born November 19, 1917, in Driggs, Idaho, at the home of her
grandparents. She was the second daughter of Edgar Milton and Udella Killpack
Williams. Neva grew up in a musical family in Price, Utah. Her father, "Toot" Williams, was the Carbon High School band director. She learned to play many instruments; piano,
saxophone, oboe, bassoon and anything else that was needed to complete the band.
She was awarded many honors and medals because of her musical abilities. In 1933,
the high school band went to the Chicago World's Fair where they placed 1st in
marching and 2nd in band. After graduation, she received a scholarship to attend
cosmetology school in Salt Lake City where she lived at the Lion House, an LDS girl's
dormitory at the time. After graduating from cosmetology school and working in Price,
she went to Chicago to live with her older sister's family and worked in the beauty salon
of Marshall Fields.
It was in Chicago that she met her sweetheart Ralph at an LDS Valentine's Dance. She married Ralph Mark Lindsey in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on May 31, 1941. His work as a special agent for the F.B.I. moved them from Chicago, to Washington DC, back to Chicago and then on to San Francisco, Kentfield, and Greenbrae, CA. In 1977, they retired to live in a home on the beautiful Oakmont Golf Course in Santa Rosa, CA. There they enjoyed many friendships, traveling, playing golf, and entertaining family. In 1993, they moved back to Utah and chose Ogden to be closer to their Utah family. She and Ralph were able to enjoy a wonderful trip to the Holy Land prior to Ralph becoming ill and passing away May 2, 1996 from a brain tumor. They shared 55 wonderful years together.
Neva was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served for many years as the ward organist, as Primary president, and Relief Society secretary, counselor, homemaking leader, and faithful visiting teacher. She loved to read and learn more about the gospel. She was an outstanding example to all who knew her and could scatter sunshine wherever she went. Her children express their love and gratitude for providing a home of happiness and being a wonderful mother, wife, and friend.
Neva was an excellent homemaker. She was known for her delicious gourmet meals and kind hospitality. She also had a gift for sewing. Her home was filled with beautiful needlework pictures she created. Many were the recipients of her Christmas needlework creations. She was always improving herself and enjoyed taking organ classes in her later years. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Sunset Camp, Aglaia Club,
and several sewing and bridge clubs.
Our family appreciates the loving care provided by daughter-in-law, Carol; Rosa
and Paula Saez; Care Source Home Health and Hospice, and many others.
