Newell Ray Dalton
LAYTON – Newell Ray Dalton, 70, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2007 surrounded by his loving family after a valiant battle with cancer.
He was born September 13, 1936 in Lewiston, Utah the son of Arnold Edward and Thelma Marietta McMurdie Dalton.
Newell graduated from Bear River High and Steven Henegar’s College.
Newell married Marlene Egli on September 28, 1956 in the Logan LDS Temple.
He was a member of the LDS Church and the Lions Club.
He was an avid fisherman, always after the big one that got away. He enjoyed cooking and was well known for his infamous meatballs at family gatherings and company parties for CH Dredge & Co. and Rich Grant Trucking. Newell enjoyed working with his hands, woodworking, restoring old guns, masonry, panning for gold and was a perfectionist in all that he did.
Newell thoroughly enjoyed being with family and friends on all occasions.
He took great pride in all he did and was more than willing to assist those around him. His abundant generosity and brilliant sense of humor will be greatly missed by all.
Survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 50 years Marlene, children: Julie (Lloyd) Heslop, West Point; Janet Allred, Clearfield; JoAnn (Tim) Contos, Ogden; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, seven step-great-grandchildren, brothers Lee (Darnell), Millville; Tim (Lola), Bigfork, MT; sister, Sharon (Scott) Mitton, Tremonton and also many nieces and nephews who loved and adored him.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack and sister-in-law Bev.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Bothwell, Utah Cemetery. Friends and family may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
