Our beloved son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, Nicholas James Thompson, lost his valiant battle with cancer and passed away on August 28, 2013. He was blessed to have so many family members and friends visit him and show him how much he was loved prior to his passing.
Nick was a gift, by any measure, born on January 31, 1990 to Roger D. and Cindy Redd Thompson. His Grandma Donna reluctantly allowed us to borrow and raise Nick. He ''lived life'' primarily in Washington Terrace, where he attended school (when it didn''t interfere with his other adventures), played a variety of sports, and made many lifelong, loyal friends. While Nick was loved and admired at home, his view of the world and of himself were, in a large part, shaped by being surrounded by loving, involved, patient and caring grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, neighbors, and friends who loved Nick without exception or judgment. He in turn, loved others without exception or judgment.
Nick was an avid reader. His personal library filled with books both classic and not so classic, yet he enjoyed them all; his favorites were Hemingway, Hunter Thompson, and Stephen King. He would often be reading 3-4 books at a time, and studied the writers'' techniques in hopes of writing his own great novel someday. He lived his short life filled with friends, pranks, and adventures worthy of a great read.
We are certain that his Grandma Donna was the first to wrap her loving arms around Nick. By now, perhaps Grandpa Chuck, grandparents, Celeste and James Redd; brother, Darin Thompson; uncles, Mike Thompson, Glen Thompson and Glenn Redd; aunt, Gaylene Seamons; cousins, Ty and Emma Redd; and a host of other family members and friends have embraced him.
He is survived by his parents, brother, Matt (April) Thompson; sisters, Tamaria Bradley (and his Roey), Dyllan (Tyson) Guthrie, as well as many kind, generous and loving uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and exceptionally great friends. While so many mean so much to Nick and the family, we would like to give special thanks to Nicks ''Redd'' uncles, Lance, Bryan, and Frank; neighbor/family nurse and friend, Stephanie Broadbent, and Micah Medina, guardian of Nicks memories and belongings.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. at the mortuary. His ashes will then be interred at the Ogden City Cemetery next to his Grandma Donna. (Take the Monroe Blvd. entrance.)
As stated, Nick had a love of books he always wanted to share with others. The family requests that all who attend the services bring a book, in good condition, for any age group, that will be donated in Nick''s name to a community program.
A Celebration with food, music, and memories will be held at the Rohmer Park Bowery in Washington Terrace from 6 to 10 p.m. (Follow the signs from 5000 South and 500 West)
