Nola Kay Ewing

July 2, 1938 — February 12, 2025

Nola Kay Ewing, a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on February 12, 2025, in Roy, Utah, at the age of 86. She was born on July 2, 1938, in McMinnville, Oregon.

She was married to her sweetheart David on June 16, 1963. They moved often with their family, which took them to several different states, these included Oregon, Washington, Michigan, California, and Texas, before spending her last 43 years in Utah.

Nola was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She joined the church while living in California and was sealed to her husband and children in the Los Angeles Temple in 1972.

Nola dedicated over 46 years of her life to teaching and shaping the minds and hearts of elementary aged children with patience and an unwavering love for learning. Her passion for education earned her numerous accolades, including the Karl Jones Award from the Utah Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Teacher Academy Fellow honor, and the induction into the Educators Hall of Fame.

Beyond her remarkable career, Nola was the embodiment of kindness and compassion. She cherished time with her family, especially enjoying lunch outings with her daughters, where love and tenderness, laughter and smiles were always on the menu. Her warmth and unwavering support uplifted everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Nola is survived by her loving husband, David A. Ewing; daughters, Laura Gates (Jeff), Stacy Nalder (Kirt), and Michelle Barraclough (Brad); sons, Jared Ewing (Laura) and Michael Ewing (Jennifer); 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Preceding Nola’s death were her parents, as well as her brother, and sister. In her last days she spoke often of them and looked forward to being reunited with them.

The tenderness and love she shared will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
