Nola Jean Hodson Wood

April 18, 1926 ~ October 11, 2016

Nola Jean Hodson Wood returned to her loving Heavenly Father on October 11, 2016.  She was born on April 18, 1926 to James Earl Hodson and Elsie Marvel Frodsham in Layton, Utah.  Nola loved growing up on the 200 acre family farm, she often talked about the geese, chickens, and ducks that her family kept and how she loved farm life.  Nola attended Davis High School and graduated with the class of 1944.  She married the love of her life, William (Bill) Albert Wood Jr., on June 29, 1946 in Montpelier, Idaho where she lived for a year before moving to Layton, Utah and later moving to Kaysville.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden, Utah Temple.  Nola and Bill were married for 62 years and they had four wonderful children together.

Nola was a talented seamstress and cook; she loved working in the home and serving her family.  She worked as a secretary at HAFB for a number of years, she also worked for Elder Construction and at the Davis County Courthouse as a secretary for the Assessor’s Office.  Nola started Woodland Floral in Taylorsville which she ran with her daughter, Julie, for five years.  Nola loved to arrange flowers and especially loved Japanese floral design.  Nola was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served as a teacher, Relief Society Secretary, and a temple worker in the Bountiful, Utah Temple.

Nola was preceded in death by her parents James Earl Hodson and Elsie Marvel Frodsham, husband, William Albert Wood Jr., son William Albert Wood III, and her daughter Susan Wood Dell.  She is survived by a daughter, Julie Wood Moon, Layton; and son James Conwey Wood, Kaysville; as well as 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  One of Nola’s favorite sayings was “when life hands you a lemon, make lemonade” and she will be expecting her family to do just that during this difficult time.

The family would like to thank the many wonderful neighbors and the ward that have been so kind and supportive over the years, as well as the nurses and CNA’s that have been so sweet and caring to Nola over the last several months.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville 4th Ward, 875 East 200 North, Kaysville, Utah.  Friends may visit family Saturday from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
