Noma Patterson
LAYTON – Noma Jeanette (Bright) Patterson, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2, 2013 at McKay-Dee Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born on November 14, 1931 in Reedley, California to Benjamin Dane and Ida May (Butchert) Bright. As a child she suffered a bout of Scarlett Fever and was bedridden for a year, during which she developed a lifelong affection for pets, caring for many cats and dogs during her life.
After High School she worked as a secretary at Lockheed-Martin Aerospace Company, where she met Adelbert Fremont “Patt” Patterson. They were married on November 23, 1957 in Fresno, CA. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Temple in Manti, Utah. They were married 55 years before being temporarily separated by his death in January of this year.
Her husband Patt had a career in the defense industry which meant frequent moves. Noma was often the move coordinator, juggling households, packing and kids while Patt was at work. She lived in many locations during her early marriage including Moab, UT (for which she had great fondness), San Bernardino, Los Angeles and Santa Ynez, CA. Noma and Patt moved to Layton in 1978 and stayed in the same house and neighborhood for 35 years where they developed close bonds with many friends who loved and supported her after her husband’s death.
Noma was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held numerous Ward and Stake positions during her life.
Noma loved the outdoors and spent many happy hours jeeping and camping. Her favorite activity was hunting for arrowheads in southern Utah with her family.
She is survived by three children; Sharon (Tim) Larsen of Bluffdale, UT; Donald (Adrianne) Patterson of Smithfield, UT; David (Charlene) Patterson of Beaverton, OR; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
