Norene Hadley Surrage
April 7, 1929 ~ July 16, 2022
Norene Hadley Surrage, our lovely and precious mother and matriarch of our family passed peacefully from this life at her home on July 16, 2022.
She was born April 7, 1929 in West Weber, Utah, the seventh child of Oscar E. Hadley and Verna Greenwell. Her childhood with her family and the dear friends that she grew up with has always been a joy to her. She attended Weber County Schools and graduated from Weber High School in 1947. During her senior year she was honored to be crowned the FFA Queen.
On August 30, 1947 she married Joseph T. Surrage in Harrisville, Utah. The marriage vows were later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised their three children on the family farm, always instilling in them a strong work ethic and commitment to their beliefs.
Her vocation was that of homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She spent countless hours supporting her husband, children, and grandchildren in whatever need or occasion arose. This, many times, required tasks on the farm, helping prepare their championship Clydesdale horses for show and simply making sure everyone was fed. She was always content to be in the shadow of the accomplishments of those who meant so much to her.
Norene was a refined and dignified lady and was always seeking to become better, and to help her family to do the same. Along with her own family she cherished her brothers and sisters and sought to provide opportunities for gatherings to make happy times and blessed memories.
She lived a life of faith and fervent devotion to her family and her church. Her belief and commitment to the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints blessed her steps in her long life’s journey. She set an example for her family by her diligence in fulfilling her ward and stake callings and her service with her husband in the Ogden Temple. Her example will continue to live on through her posterity who have all loved their Granny deeply.
Time is slow for those who wait,
To swift for those who fear,
Too long for those who grieve,
Too short those who rejoice
But for those who love
Time is eternity.
Norene is survived by her daughters, Connie (Richard) Judkins of Warren, and Julie Ann Thornton of Warren/Cedar City; and son, Ron Surrage (Jan). She has 5 grandchildren and 1 step-grandchild, 15 great-grandchildren, and 6 step-grandchildren; and her loving sister, Jeane Brunson. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Theron Ray, Deline, and Brose; sisters, Florence Hadley and LaVon Penman; son-in-law, Robert L. Thornton; great-granddaughter, Traeya Phillips; and daughter-in-law, Dana Surrage.
