Norine Petterborg Fry Norine Petterborg Fry, beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully at home May 30, 2010.

Born in Richmond, Utah, on March 4, 1930, she often recalled, with great fondness, the joy of her childhood in Richmond and how much she enjoyed the simplicity of living in a small town. Norine moved with her family to Layton in 1942, and graduated from Davis High School in 1948. She was sealed to her eternal companion, Keith Heiner Fry in the Salt Lake Temple on June 25, 1948.

Norine''s first employment was as a telephone operator with Mountain Bell. During a career spanning four decades, she completed over thirty years of service for the federal government, earning a distinguished service award, and retiring in 1993. After retirement she devoted many hours to researching her family''s genealogy with her sisters, LaMoine and Mary. She was a member of the Clearfield 9th Ward where she served faithfully for many years in the Primary and Relief Society.

Following the example of her parents, Norine developed many talents. She sang, played the piano, painted, and wrote poetry. She loved classical music and had Ogden Symphony-Ballet Association season tickets for many years. She loved to write letters and carried on a varied correspondence with her family and friends scattered around the world. Correspondence with two special girlfriends endured over forty years.

Norine had a delightful sense of humor, was quick-witted, and a great storyteller. She often shared lively tales of her childhood and family history. She knew how to make others smile and laugh. She was an avid reader, classic movie buff, and enjoyed a daily crossword puzzle. She loved to travel, whether near or far, and was always ready for a road trip.

Norine''s greatest joy was her family. She made her home a place where her children loved to bring their friends, and extended family were always happy to gather. She delighted in not only keeping up with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but nieces and nephews as well. They all knew a card and often other "surprises" would come from Auntie Norine on their special days.

Preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Keith, parents, Lee and Edna Petterborg, brother J.L. "Pete" Petterborg, and sister LaMoine Crawley. Survived by her sister Mary Cox, children, Marlin (Debbie) Fry of Richmond, Virginia, Karen (Robert) Mathena of Orange Park, Florida, and Alane (Kevin) McKenna of Salt Lake, 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grand children.

Norine resided in Clearfield since 1954, and was very grateful for the kind support of friends and neighbors who helped her maintain independence at home during her final years.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 5, 2010, at 11am at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road Layton, UT. A visitation will be held Friday evening, June 4, 2010, from 6-8pm and an hour prior to the Saturday service at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
