Norma Thorpe Barneck
Norma Thorpe Barneck, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2009 surrounded by her loving husband and family. She passed away from complications of heart surgery. She knew there was a great chance she would not survive, but any chance to continue to be with her family was the chance she wanted to take.
Norma was born February 10, 1925 in Palmyra, Utah to Arthur Franklin and Jennie Mae Nielsen Thorpe. Mom was a granddaughter of the Levi and Mary Ruth Thorpe family of Springville.
She married her lifetime sweetheart, Ralph Alexander Barneck Jr. on November 9, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all of eternity.
She will be remembered as owner and operator of Barneck Pre-School in Clearfield for over 50 years. We estimate she has touched the lives of 10,000 three and four year old children through the Pre-School.
Mom served a mission to the North Central States. She and Ralph also served together in the California San Diego and Wisconsin Milwaukee missions. Mom held many positions in the church, Relief Society President, Young Women''s President, Relief Society Teacher, Primary Chorister, and Music Chorister. She had a deep love for the Savior.
Mom had a lifetime love of music. She was part of a singing trio for many years. Mom loved flowers, gardening, and even weeding. She and dad traveled the world together on many adventures and to all sorts of interesting locations. She was an accomplished seamstress and also crocheted beautiful afghans and lace.
Mom is survived by her sweetheart and husband, Ralph A. Barneck Jr., children Afton Melcher (Wally), Jolene Goff, David Barneck (Debi), Launa Higbee (Ken), Robyn Ely (John), and Douglas Barneck (Kristine). She is also survived by her last sibling Arthella Warner of Salt Lake. She also is survived by grandchildren Brian, Benjamin, Kimberly, Andrew, Tony, Michael, David (Melcher), Todd, Brett, Sean (Goff), Joshua, Erin, Holli, Kenzie, Chelsie (Barneck), Rachel, Rebecca (Higbee), Alex (Ely), Jessica, Mitchell, Nickole, and Samantha (Barneck) and eight great-grandchildren.
