Norma Marsing Bryan

October 5, 1923 ~ September 5, 2018

Norma passed away on September 5, 2018, at her home with her family, following an accident on June 9, 2018, breaking both her ankles. A loving mother, grandmother, and mentor for all. Norma was born in her grandmother’s feather bed in Victor, Emery County, Utah, on October 5, 1923, to Alma June and Edith Zoe Wells Marsing on her mother’s 19th birthday. Her early years were spent at the Red Cliff Ranch on the Price River, Helper, Sunnyside, Green River, June’s Bottom Ranch on the Green River, the “Spur”, Keg Springs, Wellington, Hanksville, Henry Mountains, Teasdale, Fish Creek, Cedar City, and Beryl. A true desert rose.

After graduating from Enterprise High School in 1942, she moved to Ogden to further her education at Marinello Schools of Beauty. Working as a waitress at Key City Grill she met Lester M. Bryan, the proprietor’s son. Country girl meets city boy, love at first sight. Les and Norma were married in 1943.

Norma worked as a beautician for many years, owning her own shops in Cedar City, Washington Terrace, and South Weber.

Norma is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, South Weber 7th Ward. She served as a primary teacher for many years teaching classes no one else would teach and loving every child. She is a long-standing member of the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Norma was very proud of her service to Veterans and families as a life member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit #9, Ogden, Utah. She held many positions including President of Unit #9, President of Auxiliary Department of Utah, and National Executive Woman for the State of Utah American Legion Auxiliary.

Her hobbies included spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially recognizing every birthday. As her children married, she accepted their partners as one of her own. Norma enjoyed sewing projects, making blankets for all her grandchildren, playing pinochle and games with grandchildren, and successfully searching out ancestral histories. If you ever left her home hungry, it was your own fault.

Norma is survived by her husband of 75 years, Lester Merill Bryan; sister, Sherma Eves; sister-in-law, Joyce Marsing; two sons and their spouses, Merill and Nancy Bryan, John and Cheri Bryan; three daughters and their spouses, Cheryl and Lance Bybee, Alona and Scott Burton, Jean and Tracy Rice; 18 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Rosa Lee, Lois Edith, Wilma June Barton; brother, Robert Wayne; brother-in-laws, Gary Franklin Eves and Ray Bruce Barton; two grandchildren, Cheryl Jean Bybee Wood and Adam Craig Bryan.

Thanks to all the caregivers who lovingly took care of mother.
