Norma Birda Nielson Howard, 75, passed away Friday, September 24, 2010 at McKay-Dee Hospital, due to complications resulting from heart surgery.

She was born February 28, 1935 in Ephraim, Utah to Glen F. and Alta R. Nielson. She was raised and educated in Ephraim, graduating from high school in 1953.

On August 28, 1954, Norma married Lee R. Howard in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

She was a member of the LDS Farr West 1st Ward where she served in the Mutual Presidency, Primary teacher, Sunday School teacher, Relief Society teacher, and taught scouting. She also volunteered for the Weber County School District Bookmobile for many years.

She enjoyed yard work, handiwork and oil painting.

Norma is survived by her husband; four children, Roger F. (Annette) Howard, Ogden; Randy L. (Gayla) Howard, Gainesville, TX; William "Bill" Glen (Evonne) Howard, West Weber; Karla (Mike) Chatelain, Harrisville; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with another one on the way. Also surviving is one brother, Frank (Dorothy) Nielson, St. George; and two sisters, Mrs. Carol (Roy) McCandless, Albuquerque, NM; and Mrs. Kaye Dean (Bob) Martin, Tremonton.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 29th at 10 a.m. at the Farr West 1st Ward Chapel, 1800 West 1800 North.

Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. and Wednesday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the church.

Interment, West Weber Cemetery.
