Norma Hadley Salmond
OGDEN - Norma Grace Hadley Salmond, 75, died Monday, February 23, 2009 at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living in South Ogden.
She was born April 21, 1933 in Ogden, a daughter of Alonzo Brigham and Wanda Gail (Grace) Taylor Hadley.
She graduated from the old Weber High School and went on to be a private secretary until she married and started her family of five sons and one daughter: David (Kelly) Clinton; Lonn (Gail) North Ogden; J. Nyles (Patty) Logan; Steve (Lisa) Idaho Falls, ID; Meri Ann (Cary) South Ogden; Allyn (Rachelle). She was later divorced and attended Weber State College to attain her teaching degree.
On April 25, 1969, Norma married Robert Adams Salmond in Ogden. Robert (Doc) later adopted all 6 of her children and together they had Elizabeth Ann in 1973 (Jeff), Clearfield. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Norma was also able to share Bob''s seven children, Steven (Janelle); Michael (Louise); Marilyn (Dean); Richard (Annette); Mark (Alyce); Kathryn (Rodolfo); John (Shayleen). The measure of their posterity today is 75 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren.
Norma taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grade children for over 20 years. Her teaching methods were unique and made a large impact in many children''s lives.
In the summer the couple would run the "Youth Conservation Corps" groups where she was a mother figure and cooked for 50+ kids each day. In her later years, she and Bob spent their summers in the family owned hotel (Hadley''s) in West Yellowstone where many of the grandchildren labored and learned many of life''s handy skills while feeling their grandparents love.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in various church positions, her favorites were in the Relief Society.
Norma was an avid reader and loved plants, sewing and crafts. Most of all, she was a warm loving grandmother who always had a cookie for the kids and a warm yummy meal for all on numerous occasions. She would also be found caring for other residents in her assisted living center as they declined in their health. She had a sixth sense when others needed her.
Also surviving are one brother Boyd (Susan), and two sisters, Janet (Lloyd) Ostler, and Linda (Jim) Christensen.
Robert preceded her death on January 3, 2005.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living who treated her with a warm respect and loved her like their own grandmother. A special thanks to Hospice of Utah for their help and love.
