Norman Byron Smith

Norman Byron Smith, 77, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away after a long battle with cancer on September 12, 2016. He was born on May 19, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Herbert and Lois Waters Smith. He grew up in Chicago and attended Morgan Park High School, where he graduated in 1957. He also attended the University of Illinois, where he graduated with his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1967.
Norman was enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on November 15, 1960. After, he met the love of life, Carole Louise May and they were married on August 20, 1966 in Chester, Illinois.
Norman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and he enjoyed golfing, bowling, softball, hiking, boating, lightening storms, and spending time with his family.
Norman is survived by his wife, Carole Smith; one child, Kelly (Michael) Clark; two grandchildren, Amanda (Tim) Judd and Weston (Bailie) Clark; and two great-grandchildren, Aubree and Taislee Judd. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
