Norman L.  Maero

October 27, 1943 ~ March 25, 2017

Norman L. Maero, 73, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Ogden, Utah surrounded by family.  He was born on October 27 1943 in Brigham City, Utah the son of McLain and Estelle Wheatley Maero.  He graduated from Box Elder High School and attended Utah State University.

He married Susan Bergeson on June 28, 1963. From this marriage there were two children, Michael and Pam.  On July 6, 1986 he married Wanda Lacey Garside.

Norm started his career with LeGrand Johnson Construction where he supervised the site work for the Nucor Steel plant in Plymouth, Utah. After he finished that project he was hired by Nucor Steel where he eventually became General Manager of Construction. Norm built and modernized steel mills all over the world. People that worked with and for Norm have gone on to become industry leaders and created thousands of jobs. It has been said that Norm oversaw the construction of more steel producing mills than anyone in history.

Magnanimous, generous, and philanthropic. All synonyms for Norm. Firm on the outside, compassionate on the inside. Because of Norm’s generosity, many lives have been bettered; and family members have had lives preserved. “…unto whom much is given, much is required” (D&C 82:3) Norm fulfilled that stewardship.

Norm was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Norm  is survived by his wife, Wanda; daughter, Pam (Bob) Carter, Morgan, Utah; son, Michael (Susan) Maero, Perry, Utah; two stepchildren, Joni (Rick) Wall, Riverdale, Utah and  Steven (Cristine) Garside, South Ogden, Utah; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as 14 bonus grandchildren and 23 bonus great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Barbara Wright; and brother, Tracy Maero.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.   Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
