Norman James Montgomery
HUNTSVILLE a" Norman James Montgomery, 84, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father January 10, 2013 at his peaceful and dear home in Huntsville, Utah. He was born on January 27, 1928 in North Ogden, Utah, a son of Leland James and Ellen Lucille Harrison Montgomery.
Norman married his sweetheart Joyce Ferrell Montgomery on January 16, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. President David O. McKay performed the ceremony.
In his youth, Norman worked hard on the farm, attended Huntsville School and Weber High School. He attended Utah State University. He loved playing basketball, and continued playing into his 60''s.
He loved his Father in Heaven and his Savior Jesus Christ. He lived honorably and faithfully in every respect. He was an active member of the Middle Fork Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully served as a missionary in British Isles, and in many other capacities including youth organizations, Sunday School, Stake Mission Leader, a faithful home teacher, and Bishop.
Norman was a very kind, generous, loving man. He was never known to have said a negative word about anyone. He was a hard worker and taught his children in a quiet loving way, by example. He loved his dear Huntsville farm and spent long hours working and caring for the ground and milking cows. He worked and retired from the Weber School District as a bus driver and developed lifelong friendships with the kids. He enjoyed the basic good things in life and wanted nothing more than happiness and joy for his family. He was a good neighbor and friend and was dearly loved by all who knew him.
He was a member of the Weber County Farm Bureau where he served two terms as president. He was on the East Huntsville Township planning commission, and served as president and water master of Mountain Canal Irrigation Company. He served on the board of Weber Basin Water Conservancy District, and two terms as president.
Norman is survived by his loving spouse of 60 years Joyce F. Montgomery; four children Ronald J. (Jeanie) Montgomery, Huntsville; Julie (John) Lund, Huntsville; Linda (David) Knowles, Huntsville; Larry (Denise) Montgomery, Huntsville; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Eleanore (Raymond) Jones, Charlene Grover, LeeAnn (Mark) Fuller, Anita (Glaydon) Ferrin, Judy (Bob) Poll, Fran (John) Oliver, Neva (Ross) Wangsgard, Rhea (Bryan) Schade, and brother Dennis (Kathy) Montgomery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Beverly Montgomery; a brother, Harrison Montgomery; and sister, Jean Wangsgard.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Huntsville Stake Center, 6500 East 1900 North, Eden. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
