Norman Steele

September 5, 1919 ~ May 25, 2015

Norman Steele passed away on Memorial Day, May 25, 2015, after 95 years of a full, happy, and interesting life. He was born on September 5, 1919, the first of three sons of Thomas H. and Clara B. Steele.  He married the love of his life, Arlee Petersen on October 15, 1937.  Arlee preceded him on April 8, 2014, after 77 years of happiness and success. They have three happily married sons, Michael (Janet), Tom (Jennifer), and Brad (Julie) and a wonderful legacy of grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren.

Norm was a veteran of WWII and proudly served his country in the South Pacific and Asian theaters. He retired from the Defense Depot in Ogden in 1975.  He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the America First Credit Union for 54 years and Ben Lomond Golf Corporation for some 36 years.  During his tenure with America First he was instrumental in increasing membership, establishing innovative business practices, interior design services for multiple branch office expansions, and 22 artistic and informative calendar productions.  While serving as Chairman of the Board, he was most proud of overseeing the design and implementation of the America First Community Assistance Program, an internally funded program for the assistance of Ogden's disadvantaged.

Norm possessed natural athletic talents having participated in baseball, boxing, basketball, billiards, tennis, and golf (which he played for 80 years).  He believed himself to be very lucky to have recorded six holes in one.

He was an extraordinary man who gave and received love and loyalty from family and countless friends. We were all truly blessed to have had him in our lives.  He was generous, compassionate, creative, smart, well read, and kind.  He was an honorable man and an inspiration to his family. His legacy is his gift of humor and contagious laughter. He will be remembered and missed by so many.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

The family would like to thank the Visiting Angels Mary and Kim for their great care and love, as well as the special treatment provided by the hospice staff Carli and Tonya.

In lieu of flowers the family would encourage donations be made to America First Community Assistance Program. Contact any America First branch.
