Oliver Marvin Lewis
July 26, 1924 ~ February 8, 2015
Oliver Marvin Lewis, age 90, passed away on February 8, 2015 at his home in Ogden, Utah.
Marvin was born on July 26, 1924 in Ogden, Utah to Alfred Marion and Vera Carter Lewis. A first son and second child, he was a good boy and grew to be a great man, generous, and loving. He enjoyed friends, books, writing poetry, flying, horses, skiing, and, after retirement, golf. He loved the intellectual challenges of Internal Medicine and the opportunities for service it provided. He adored his wife, Sharon Rich Lewis and his children, Shelley (Douglas P.) Felt, Robin (Brad R.) Farr, David Rich Lewis (Kim), Mark Rich Lewis (Susan), Seth Rich Lewis (Tonya), Julie Lewis (Tane Williams). Sharon and Marvin have 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, who will miss their Pop.
A quick summary of his life includes service to his country in the Pacific during World War II, service to the medical community as well as to his patients, and service in his church as a Bishop of the Ogden 43 rd Ward, President of the Weber State University Student Stake, Medical Advisor for the Northern Utah Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a faithful home teacher.
His accomplishments include 38 years of medical practice, with service as Chief of Medicine (2 terms) and President of the Medical Staff at McKay Dee Hospital, President of the Weber County Heart Association, President of the Utah Heart Association, and Chairman of the Hinckley Airport Advisory Committee. A Paratrooper with the 11 th Airborne Division of the United States Army during World War II, he earned a purple heart with oak leaf cluster.
A hard worker, Marvin was always the first to volunteer for a shift at the canning factory and last to leave the church after a ward dinner. He was always a support in times of trouble with a listening ear and a wise heart.
Sharon and Marvin belong to a Study Group that has met for more than 50 years and count these dear couples along with many others as treasured friends. The family would like to thank Tammy and Danny at Encompass Hospice for their kindness and excellent help.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathryn Lewis DeHaas. In lieu of flowers, feel free to donate to the O. Marvin Lewis Scholarship at Weber State University or to your favorite charity.
