Opal McArthur Gandee
September 8, 1920 ~ July 28, 2015
Opal was born in Churchill, Idaho a town so small its business district consisted of one small school. She was born to John O. and Pearl Marie Anderson McArthur the sixth of thirteen children, three boys and ten girls.
She went to school in Churchill and Marion and as a teenager moved to Ogden to live with her sister. She later went to a vocational school in Wieser, Idaho where she met and married Virgil K. Gandee on May 31, 1939. Two sons were born to them Kenneth and Robert (deceased). Virgil passed away in 1971.
Opal was a hard worker and her home and yard were always picture perfect. She walked about five miles a day until she was ninety. She worked in school lunch for Weber County for many years.
She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked for many years in Relief Society. She would often make enough rolls for a funeral luncheon.
She passed away six weeks short of her 95 th birthday.
Opal is survived by her son, Kenneth (Mary); one granddaughter, Misty; and four sisters who loved her very much, Vivian Pickett, Selena Mortensen, Burnadean Blake, and Yvonne Evett. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, one grandson, one granddaughter, her parents, three brothers, and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Hooper City Cemetery.
Opal often donated to her favorite charities, in lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to yours.
