“Together Again”

Opal Luella Waggoner, 95, passed quietly and peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday.

Opal was born in Enid, Oklahoma to Fred and Alta Harmon.

Opal met the love of her life, Roy Waggoner and they were married in Enid in 1939.

Roy worked as an electrician for Pillsbury Mills in Enid. One day in 1947 day he came home and asked Opal how she would like to move to a place called Ogden, Utah. She didn’t know where that was, but as long as it was going to be with Roy she was happy to go. They packed up their four kids, Leroy, Joan, Jean and Joyce, and drove to Utah where Roy had been transferred to the local Pillsbury plant in west Ogden. Soon after moving, their 5th child Fred was born and then in 1959 their 6th child, Robert was born. Opal raised the 6 children while Roy continued his work as an electrician until he retired in the late 1970s.

Throughout the years vacations were taken as road trips to Oklahoma, national and state parks and the western US. The family loved the out of doors and spent many wonderful times camping and hiking and waterskiing. Waterskiing was quite a feat for Opal since she had a tremendous fear of the water so to counteract that she wore both a life vest and a ski belt. They even took up snow skiing in their 50’s.

Opal has been a member of the Eastern Star, Queen Esther for 63 years.

Roy passed away in 1995 after a long bout with emphysema and cancer. Opal was there every day lovingly attending to him. Opal has spent a couple of years at Country Pines Assisted living and after a fall was relocated to Rocky Mountain Care Center in Clearfield. She enjoyed visits from her children who visit her often and would take her on walks. She enjoys teasing and laughing. She always had her Bible by her bed and when asked if she read it often, she said “yes” but with a grin said she “skips over the begat parts“. She was a member of Roy Christian Church and enjoyed playing the piano for the congregation.

Opal is survived by her children, Leroy (Joy) of Layton; Joan Wade (Bill) of Clearfield; Jean Richins (Ren) of Las Vegas, NV; Joyce “TC” Pickett (Joe) of Martin, LA; Fred (Dee) of Green Valley, AZ; and Robert (Kathy) of Perry, Utah, and many nieces and nephews. She has 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her parents, Fred and Alta Harmon; sisters, Ernestine Davis and Irene Geyman; and her brothers, Ralph, Karl and Elvin Harmon.

She will be missed by all who knew her. She was loved by everyone who took the time to get to know her including the staff at Rocky Mountain Care center who all knew her by sight and loved her smile and gentle sense of humor and her consideration for everyone she came in contact with.

The family would like to thank RMCC for the compassion and care they gave her, especially the nurses and CNA’s who took excellent and loving care of Opal.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 21st at 2 p.m. at the Roy Christian Church, 4347 South 1900 West, where Queen Esther Chapter # 4, Order of the Eastern Star and Minister Dennis Whisler will officiate.

Friends may visit with family on Monday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the church. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
