Ora Jensen Owens 1925 - 2013

On July 14, 2013, Ora Jensen Owens passed peacefully from this life into the next after a long illness.

Ora was born to Allston Moroni Jensen and Amelia Larsen on November 9, 1925 in Mantua, Utah. She spent her childhood growing up there surrounded by her younger siblings, loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She attended the quaint two-room schoolhouse in Mantua before moving on to Box Elder High in Brigham City. Ora worked at the Bushnell Army Hospital in Brigham City during World War II. When she was twenty years old, she accepted a call to serve a mission for the LDS Church in the Eastern States Mission headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. During the few days she was in the old Salt Lake Mission Home, she briefly met Stephen Lester Owens, Jr., a young missionary who was departing for the Spanish-American Mission. Ora and Les met again at BYU after their missions and were married in the Logan Temple on September 1, 1950.

Ora was blessed with an artistic eye, loving personality, and subtle sense of humor. She was very active in the LDS Church and had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Her faith was constant and unwavering. Ora served in whatever church callings came her way. Whether called to lead auxiliary organizations or work quietly in the background, she served gladly and well.

Ora was a formally trained artist, having completed her graduation requirements for an art degree from Weber State by attending night school. To help support her family, she taught at North Layton Junior High for eighteen years where she shared her love of art with many young students. Besides painting in oil and especially watercolor, Ora had a gift for interior design, upholstery, jewelry making, needlepoint, and pottery. She loved working crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She was a seamstress, generous hostess, avid reader, and amazing cook. Her walnut fudge may never be equaled.

Ora''s crowning achievement was being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her home was our refuge, her love unconditional. Despite her fair share of pain and heartache, Ora showed us by quiet example how to live with dignity and grace. She appreciated the beauty and meaning of life and reflected this in her daily actions.

Ora is survived by her children, Carol, Jane (John McIntire), Brent (Kathy Dorman), Judy (Doug Payne), and Stan (Carolyn Forbes), brother Marcus (Mary) Jensen, sister, Janice Clawson, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Les Owens, and brother Harold Jensen.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Bountiful Mueller Park 5th Ward, 1320 E. 1975 S. Viewings will be at the ward from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the services, and Friday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N 400 E.
