Orlan Walter Gumbrecht
LAYTON - Orlan W. Gumbrecht, age 86, retired Hydraulics, refrigeration building maintenance for Hercules Inc. (ATK) Clearfield, Utah died Tuesday November 17th of natural causes.
He was born February 13, 1923 in Standardville, Utah to Eduard Walter Gumbrecht and Elizabeth Elmer Gumbrecht.
Orlan, affectionately known as Walt was a highly proficient and valued maintenance worker who was known to be able fix anything and everything mechanical with the precision of an expert. Orlan was a veteran of World War 11 as a Cadet Pilot and Served as a Corporal in the Army Air Corp from August 2, 1943 until the end of the war. He received an honorable discharge. He often spoke about his military service with appreciation and dedication to his Country.
After the War, Orlan worked in the Coal Mines in Carbon County, while living in Wellington, Utah. He later retired and moved with his family to Layton, Utah in 1960 to work for Hercules Inc. Later, he retired from Hercules. Orlan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and is married to Clara Dorlene Russell (surviving). Married June 15, 1945 in Lincoln, NE. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity and were sealed to their seven children. He is survived by his brother, David Edward, sister, Maxine and husband Rulon Sessions, son Russell (Pierette), son Kurt (Kerry), son Raymond (Robin), son Paul (Rebecca), daughter Elise, daughter Valorie Tyrrell (Don), and deceased twin sister, AnnaLee Christison (Ken), and their 17 Grandchildren and seven Great Grandchildren.
Orlan Walter Gumbrecht was a kind, loving, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many people. He was dedicated in helping the Boy Scouts of America. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Gratitude and thanks to Legacy House Assisted Living, Alpine Hospice in South Ogden, and all of those who served as medical practitioners for him throughout the years.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Wellington, Utah Cemetery at 3 p.m.
